Double-sided PCB circuit boards are coated on both sides with a thin layer of conductive metal, such as copper. Vias through the circuit board allow circuits on one side of the circuit board to connect to circuits on the other side. Circuits and components of double-layer circuit boards usually have two connection methods: through-hole assembly and surface mounting. Through-hole assembly means that the pin of the component passes through the hole on the circuit board, and then the pin end is fixed on the circuit board by soldering.
Circuit board surface mount does not rely on wires as a connection medium between components and the circuit board. In contrast, surface-mount components are soldered directly to the circuit board through a large number of small pins, which means that the circuit board itself is used as a wiring surface for different components. This allows the circuit to be completed with less space, and more space is freed, allowing the circuit board to perform more functions. Double-sided PCB circuit boards are commonly used in applications that require moderate complexity circuits, such as industrial controls, power supplies, HVAC systems, LED lighting, automotive instrument panels, amplifiers, and vending machines.
